The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 957 is a young and fairly active chapter. It started in 2004 and was chartered in 2005. It currently has members from every branch of service.
The chapter hosted the 2006 VVA State Convention and has participated in placing flags on the graves of Williamsburg area veterans for Memorial Day and Veterans Day since 2005. In 2008, the chapter president, Cody Grundy was guest speaker at the Veterans Day ceremony here in Williamsburg, Virginia.
In 2008, the chapter hosted a tour of Jamestown Settlement for wheelchair-bound veterans from McGuire VA Hospital in Richmond, and in 2006 set up collection points with the James City County, Williamsburg and Yorktown fire departments to collect Items needed by wounded warriors at McGuire VA Hospital recovering from wounds received in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The chapter helped welcome home veterans from the 237th Engineers in West Point, Virginia when they returned from Iraq, and chapter members stood at attention as the 237th passed in buses on their way to re-deployment to Iraq. We have adopted units in Iraq and sent them care packages with things they need and some things they just wanted.
The Chapter meets the first Thursday of each month at the Dominion Power activities building located at 4059 Ironbound Road in Williamsburg, Virginia. The meeting starts at 7pm. Members and non-members are invited. If you are a Vietnam Veteran or a Vietnam Era Veteran you and your spouse are invited and welcome.
